It is generally known as 'Pattern Imprinted Concrete' because of the various patterns that are created at the point of laying.

Although it does not require a great deal of maintenance, the concrete should be re-sealed every 3-5 years depending on the amount of wear it gets. If this is not done every so often the concrete will lose colour over time and general wear will sometimes result in exposing the bare concrete underneath. The process for re-sealing imprinted concrete is done in two stages. Firstly, pattern imprinted concrete will require pressure washing. This is usually done with a powerful rotary headed pressure cleaner which will remove any dirt, algae or weeds that may have built up on the surface of the concrete over time. If the concrete has lost any colour due to general wear and exposure to UV rays require some re-colouring to restore it to what it looked like when it was first installed. This is done by adding colour pigments to the concrete sealer to re-create the original colouring.

Pattern imprinted concrete is protected at first by sealing. To keep it looking new and to have long term protection from any sort of deterioration, we always use Smartseal imprinted concrete sealer. The concrete sealer will initially give the concrete a 'wet look' finish but this will dull down over time. Anti-slip additive may also be added to the sealer during application to stop the surface becoming slippery and dangerous to walk on when wet.
